On Easter morning I woke up and it was honestly one of the most gorgeous days I can EVER remember having in Spring. The sun was perfectly shining and it was warm with this cute little breeze…such perfect weather to photograph this amazing couple about to become +1. Dr. Mike Virts (or Dr. Mike as his patients love to call him) is an incredible pediatric dentist in Frederick, MD. He’s had lottttttts of experience being wonderful and kind to all his patients so I know he’s going to be such a great dad(and make sure baby’s teeth are perfect!) You can check out more on Frederick Pediatric Dentistry on their super fun website at www.fpdentistry.com.

Mama-to-be Kristen is simply stunning – she wears pregnancy so well and is totally prepared and excited to meet her new sweet baby. Spending this gorgeous morning wandering around a beautiful old farm field in Frederick was the perfect way to kick off the holiday, and looking at these images just make me smile seeing the warmth and sunshine everywhere. Kristen with her adorable dress and the gardens totally just scream Spring, and I love how everything tied in together. I cant wait to meet their new addition for their newborn session in a few weeks!!

Enjoy these sneak peeks!

I had the honor and pleasure of traveling to the sun and the sea in Santa Barbara, California to photograph this beautiful, real, and super fun couple as they excitedly prepare for their baby to be born. The day we had our session was seriously one of the most sunny, beautiful days I’ve ever seen (of course, we were in California…) and everything just came together perfectly for us. Their adorable two pups tagged along and were quite the showstoppers themselves, and I think they’re going to be great ‘big brother’s’ to the new baby. This mama was totally glowing, had the perfect baby bump, and watching their sweet growing family stroll around the hills of Santa Barbara was so awesome. I left California thinking A) can I somehow live there and in Maryland at the same time and B) this baby is going to have so much love in it’s life. Congrats to you guys – it was so nice to spend the morning with you both and celebrate your new little life who will be here soon!

I have to admit, I think I have some of the world’s most beautiful babies as my clients – and sweet baby A was absolutely one of the most BEAUTIFUL baby girls I’ve ever seen. Her cute lips were adorable, her face was cherubic, and her 10 little fingers and toes were perfect. She was also SUCH a dream to photograph and hung right with us as we wandered around a gorgeous DC park as well as did the classic newborn in-home session. She even loved being in my antique stroller from the 1930′s and vintage doll bed (shown below – so cool!) Her personality is amazing already and you can tell how in love her parents are with her (and eachother – they’re the sweetest family!) It was such a joy to spend a morning with this awesome family, and document this incredible new adventure in their lives. Check out the adorable sneak peeks below!

Ok seriously – BEAUTIFUL!!!

Next week I say goodbye to my 20′s and step happily into being 30 years old. I know this phases some people, but I had a great past 10 years living in my “20′s” and am so excited to see what the next 10 brings. In my 20′s I graduated college, moved to two different states, married my husband, had a baby, started my own company, ran a 1/2 marathon (ok walked), became a certified scuba diver, drove cross country, and traveled to 5 continents. I made friends and lost loved ones, found unconditional love and the simple joy of being a family.

My little baby boy is turning 1 this next week too – 2 days after I turn 30. His birthday is surreal to me, as I know it’s cliche but time really does go by so fast. It feels like just yesterday that we were swaddling him and watching his first smiles…and now he’s a ball of energy trying to take his first steps. I couldnt be prouder of the boy he’s becoming, but I wish I could bottle up these last 12 months and hold on to them forever. Happy birthday to my sweet little boy!

As a kid growing up here in Frederick, Maryland I spent every Spring hiking into Sugarloaf mountain with my family to see the bluebells bloom. Bluebells are only found a few places in the world, and we are lucky to have an incredible meadow of them growing right on my studio property each April. They only bloom for a short while, but while they’re here I cant think of a more beautiful place in the entire world.
The downside – that we have to hike and drive through fits of mud and downed branches to get there. The terms – ‘off roading’ dont really even seem appropriate here…it is wayyyy more rugged than that.
So when one of my favorite clients contacted me to get a few images of her kids together (isnt that every parent’s toughest photo job – to get BOTH kids in the same frame and not pulling eachother’s hair?) I knew I’d finally found the people to head to this spot. They’re the perfect ages to think that fields of flowers are the homes of fairies and magic, and also are cool riding on a tractor.

Enjoy these sneak peeks of a one-of-a-kind location and a spectacular family.
