Leaving on a jet plane

Announcement #3!

And here is our last big, huge, amazing announcement for this week!!! Dave and I are taking July and August – in between when we leave Indy and start our lives in Maryland – and are traveling down the East Coast of Australia!!!

This is a dream trip of ours, one we’ve thought about and wanted to do for so long…and I’m so excited it’s almost here! I used to live in Brisbane, Australia back in 2001 and I have wanted to go back for so long. Dave’s never been before, so I can already see me dragging him to all the places I remember. I of course, being the completely irrational person that I am, wanted to originally go for 1 year. Yeah…Dave won that battle.

I think we both are using this time and this trip to go after very different personal goals. Dave is using this time as a big break from allllllllll the years of school he has just completed. A time to relax, kick back, see a different part of the world and experience a new culture – and basically not think about teeth for 6 weeks. ;) I’m most excited about the opportunity for me to refresh, unplug, have fun, and recharge. We’re both really looking forward to having all of that time to spend together too.

One thing I wrestled with is whether to bring my laptop. Most of my time producing an image is actually spent behind the computer screen. I really would love to be able to take photographs during our trip, edit them on my computer, and then post them for you all to see immediately. This though, posed two big problems. One, a laptop is heavy, and when I’m weighing out bikini tops to make sure my luggage works – a laptop has got to go. Secondly though, and honestly more important to me, is that I am really excited about the opportunity to go back to basics…to what made me originally so many years ago fall in love with photos. TRAVEL! I am using this trip as a chance to force myself to see creatively, work on in-camera topics like composition and exposure, and relish in the time I will not be sitting behind a computer screen, but instead out there soaking up life! I cant wait.

For those interested in the details, we’re flying from LA to Cairns and making our way down to Melbourne over a 6 week timeline. We’re doing a Great Barrier Reef diving trip on a live aboard dive boat, spending a 4 day trip aboard a sailboat learning to sail in the Whitsunday Islands, camping at Fraser Island, and spending lots of time in Port Douglas, Hamilton Island, Noosa, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Sydney, The Blue Mountains, Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road. We’re packing 2 checked backpacks, 1 small bag that will hold my camera, and another small bag that we’ll throw a water bottle, map, etc. into. No going over the weight limits allowed! :)

For those who care (we do) – we did decide to purchase the Carbon offset credits…Dave is still doubtful that the money makes it into the best hands, but oh well. I hope it does.

So there you go guys!!! My new website, a new city, and an amazing trip. I couldnt be more excited about our future!!!

Announcement #2!!!

I’m so excited to share this much anticipated news with you – Dave and I are moving to Frederick, Maryland in 3 weeks!!!!!!!  Ahhhhhh!!!  Dave is graduating from his residency program in early July and so in a few weeks we’ll be packing up our few belongings and driving to the East Coast to set up our new little life.

We’ve officially opened our two new businesses in Maryland – Detterline Orthodontics and Shey Marin Photography, and we couldnt be more excited about our new adventures!  It is bittersweet though to leave Indiana – we have made so many amazing friends(and have family still up in ‘the region’), a job that I love, photography clients I adore, and a city that we’ve made our home over the last 6 years.   But I know just like every other change we’ve experienced, this will just be another amazing chapter in our book.

Here’s to new beginnings!!!  Stay tuned tomorrow for an equally exciting BIG announcement!!!!!! :)   yay!!!

And check back tomorrow for HUUUUUGE announecement #2!!!!  It’s going to be big!

Hey guys!!!  Starting tomorrow I’ll be posting new HUUUUUUGE news for me – one new announcement each day until the weekend!  I’m so so so excited about all the upcoming news – I cant wait to share it with you all!!!  Yayyyyyy!  Stay tuned! :)

5 on Friday!

June 5, 2009

1. My friend Julie and I are having a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEE yard sale tomorrow!!!!!!  She recently moved so she has a ton of stuff, and we’ve not moved for 6 years so we have a TON of stuff that we did a major spring cleaning on…and I need to get rid of it all!  So from 8-2 if you’re in the broad ripple area head over to 5625 N. College Ave and you’ll see us chilling in her front yard!

2. I’ll admit – I have a huge phobia of plane crashes…and the recent crash of the Air France flight has me completely freaked out.  I know logically that it’s statistically way more likely I’ll die of heart disease(as I sit here eating a Long’s donut)…but I think the loss of control is what scares me about flights.  I never used to have a problem flying – I’ve flown hundreds of flights in my life…but timing wise right after 9/11 I had a melt down and somehow became a crazy anxious passenger.   I just learned Tony Kornheiser from PTI quit his job on Monday Night Football because of his fear of flying…I hope I dont ever get to that point.  Blah.

3. The NBA and NHL championships are upon us and it’s exciting!!!!!!  Work at adidas has been super busy with hot market rush orders and ‘if win’ orders…games like these are great for business!

4. Have you all heard of a recipe called Salsa Chicken?  There seems to be a bunch of variations out there, but the one I like is super simple and healthy.  Toss in a slow cooker 1 chicken breast, 1 jar of salsa, 1 can of black beans drained, and 1 small bag of corn.  Cook on low for 6 hours and at the end shred the chicken with two forks and serve over brown rice, in fajitas, etc.  So good and really easy!

5. Dave is really excited about seeing the movie The Hangover this weekend…then again Dave gets excited about every movie that comes out and loves seeing things on opening day.  I’m sure it will be good though, and I do still sort of owe him for watching Rachel Getting Married…

Have a great weekend!!!
